Dominant Swedish Women Triumph in the Relay

The women’s relay brought the second day of competition at the Biathlon World Cup in Hochfilzen to a close. The Swedish team of Ella Halvarsson, Anna Magnusson, and sisters Elvira and Hanna Öberg delivered an outstanding performance, asserting control early on and ultimately celebrating victory with a total of seven spare rounds and a winning margin of 40.3 seconds over Norway (9 spare rounds). The German quartet completed the podium in third place (+51.3 seconds / 8 spare rounds).

The Austrian team of Anna Gandler, Anna Andexer, Anna Juppe, and Lisa Hauser also impressed with a strong and cohesive team effort, much to the delight of the many home fans. They remained in contention for the very top positions right up until the final shooting. Anchor Lisa Hauser took full risk in the last standing shoot but unfortunately had to ski two penalty loops. In the end, the Austrian women’s relay finished eighth, 2:31.9 minutes behind the winners, with a total of 13 spare rounds and two penalty loops.
