Kazakh biathlon team reliefed

After the raid at the team hotel the Kazakh athletes were accused of having doped.

As the IBU announced today all tested samples were negative. This was also confirmed by Secretary General Nicole Resch: “Blood and urin samples were taken, we are happy about the negative testings. There is no reason to impose sanctions.”

As reported the Austrian Criminal Police Office has searched the Kazakh team hotel before the World Championships started and has secured medical products and drugs.

There was no understanding for the procedure by the Kazakh team. “We respect the right the state council has but the investigation was unreasonably harsh and had an impact on the performance of our athletes”, said Andrej Krijukow – Vice President of the Kazakh association. On behalf of the athletes Galina Wischnewskaja talked about how unpleased they were by how they were treated: “We didn’t know exactly what was going on and were in great fear.”

In the end Wischnewskaja explained that there should be lessons learnd from this case and wishes this should never happen again.
